Backbench Labour MPs have unveiled an all-out assault on Sir Keir Starmer’s anti-ceasefire place in Gaza.
A lot of hard-left MPs have tabled an modification to the King’s Speech, delivered yesterday, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
The transfer dangers splitting a fragile Labour Party, with hypothesis this morning that extra shadow ministers could need to stop following Imran Hussain’s resignation late final night time.
Twelve Labour MPs, plus unbiased MP Jeremy Corbyn, have backed the modification, noting the House’s “regret” that the speech didn't “include measures to ensure the Government upholds international humanitarian law and protect civilians in Israel and Palestine”.
The modification continues, with 20 backers slamming Israel’s “total siege and bombardment of Gaza”.
It says: “The pressing precedence have to be to cease civilian deaths and struggling; welcome the rising requires a ceasefire, together with the United Nations Secretary-General… and subsequently name not he Government to urgently press all events to conform to a direct ceasefire."
The modification nearly definitely wouldn’t move, but when known as by the speaker might put numerous senior Labour MPs in difficult positions.
Some 14 shadow ministers have known as for a ceasefire, in contradiction to the Labour Party’s official place.
