Former Home Secretary Ken Clarke has urged folks to “give the Rwanda scheme a chance to work”.
He warned Britain should act to deal with unlawful migration amid an increase in small boat crossings in latest days.
Mr Clarke stated whereas he has advocated the advantages that migrants convey to Britain, “doing nothing about illegal immigration is not an option”.
He stated: “Importantly, in all the debate about the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill (IMB), no one has advanced an alternative.
“I have listened keenly for an idea of how else we might deal with the mounting problem of irregular migration, but answer has come there none.”
Mr Clarke backed the “extraordinary” small boats legislation final month within the House of Lords and has reconfirmed his place because the Bill returned for its third studying yesterday (MON).
The flagship laws handed by the House of Commons however has met fierce opposition within the Lords.
It goals to make sure those that arrive within the UK with out permission can be detained and promptly eliminated, both to their house nation or a 3rd nation reminiscent of Rwanda.
Mr Clarke stated he isn't making his feedback out of “slavish loyalty” and he has not at all times been an admirer of the Government.
But he lauded the Government’s strategy to welcoming in Ukrainians and folks from Hong Kong.
He stated: “We are not becoming a walled-in, closed country. That is a good British contribution to a tremendous problem for the whole of the Western World.
“Everyone knows that (illegal migration) is a huge problem, and that, if we cannot find a solution, people will die in the Channel in considerable numbers by taking risks as they come here.”

The Government has lodged a bid to take its authorized battle to the Supreme Court.
