An announcement from Cumbria Police learn: "Officers investigating a serious collision on the A66 at Penrith are appealing for witnesses.

"At 12:41pm yesterday (14 June), officers obtained a report of a collision on the A66 eastbound carriageway between junction 40 of the M6 and Kemplay Bank roundabout. The collision concerned a HGV and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a 17-year-old boy from Penrith, was taken to hospital by air ambulance in a critical condition.
