A person who was arrested outdoors Buckingham Palace on Tuesday has been detained underneath the Mental Health Act, police say.
He was initially held on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and was taken into custody, as a precautionary managed explosion was carried out by officers outdoors the palace.
Police stated they had been known as at round 7pm on Tuesday after the person approached the gates of the palace and threw plenty of gadgets, believed to be shotgun cartridges, into the grounds.
Officers detained the 59-year-old suspect who was discovered with a knife and was not in possession of a firearm, stated the Metropolitan Police in an announcement.
On Wednesday, the person was detained underneath the Mental Health Act and brought to hospital. He will stay on bail whereas receiving medical care.
The police assertion stated: "Cordons were in place after the incident after the man was also found to be in possession of a bag.
"Specialists attended and a managed explosion was performed as a precaution."
There had been no reported accidents and the incident was not being handled as terror-related, the drive added.
