Sean Parry, 44, will seem in Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday following the incident on Wednesday.

The police stated an investigation was launched after a member of the House of Commons made a report back to the parliamentary liaison and investigation group on Wednesday 14 June following "an incident involving the MP and another man in the Westminster area earlier that day".

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated: "Fast-time enquiries were carried out and officers on deployment in Westminster on Thursday, 15 June identified and arrested a man in connection with the incident.

"He was taken into police custody and charged on Friday 16 June."
