Former Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage has spoken out on his son's choice to go away Manchester United.
Charlie Savage, 20, has joined Reading on a everlasting deal after one-and-a-half many years spent rising by way of the ranks at Old Trafford.
"I couldn't be more proud of what he's achieved and the mature decision he's taken to test himself in League One when he could have stuck around at Old Trafford seeing out the two-year option on his contract," he wrote in The Mirror.
"At 20, Charlie has decided to follow his own pathway and, as a family, we support his choice to leave one of the world's biggest football clubs in search of regular first-team game time instead of his career potentially stagnating at Under-21 level.
"The snipers will all the time make their low-cost photographs about him making extra appearances for United than his outdated man. But I'll always remember the second he got here off the bench to make his debut in opposition to Young Boys within the Champions League after I was co-commentating for BT Sport.
"And his last game in a Manchester United shirt was wearing the captain's armband in the pre-season win against Leeds in Oslo earlier this month. What a way to bow out."
