Hundreds of asylum seekers will quickly be pressured to share lodging in resorts. After a tense confrontation with 40 asylum seekers who took to the streets of central London in protest, the federal government has determined to implement the coverage throughout the UK.

The authorities hopes to avoid wasting greater than £250 million by forcing asylum seekers to share rooms.

Immigration minister Robert Jenrick mentioned the UK asylum system is "riddled with abuse."

He mentioned plenty of progress has been made on unlawful migration in a brief time frame with "really unique landmark deals" with France seeing a "big increase" within the variety of interceptions on the seashores.

But he mentioned the asylum system - which in keeping with Mr Jenrick has a backlog of greater than 150,000 instances - should be modified "fundamentally".

He advised the BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme: "The asylum system is riddled with abuse, we have to be honest with ourselves.

"The approach to deal with that's by altering basically the way in which we deal with asylum."

Mr Jenrick said the Illegal Migration Bill to detain migrants who arrive through unauthorised means before returning them home or to a third country, such as Rwanda, will alleviate the pressure.

"That will create the deterrent we desperately want, it'll break the enterprise mannequin of the individuals smuggle gangs and it'll cease the system from coming beneath insupportable stress like it's as we speak," he said.

Mr Jenrick said he did not think it was unreasonable to ask asylum seekers to share rooms after a group this week apparently refused to enter a Pimlico hotel where the Home Office had asked them to sleep "4 individuals per room."

In a letter to the Home Secretary, the leader of Westminster City Council expressed his "deep concern" that around 40 refugees were placed in the borough on Wednesday night "with out acceptable lodging or help obtainable" and no prior communication with the native authority.

Speaking concerning the incident, Jenrick advised the BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg programme: "As I perceive what occurred right here was that these migrants, who had themselves mentioned that they have been destitute, they'd nowhere to remain, we had provided them a secure mattress with board and lodgings in a good-quality lodge in central London.

"Yes, some of them had to share with other people. These are single adult males: I don't think that's unreasonable.

"We wish to cut back the fee to the taxpayer. Some individuals mentioned that wasn't adequate and so they wished their very own ensuite bedrooms, and the Home Office took the superbly cheap view that we have to take care of the taxpayer right here.

"And if you're genuinely destitute, of course you'd accept that, and common sense prevailed and, I think, almost all of the migrants in question accepted the accommodation."

He denied it was Government coverage to inform asylum seekers they need to share 4 to a room in resorts, however mentioned it was "completely fair and reasonable" to ask single grownup males to share a room.

"We don't want to be using hotels at all. These are taking away valuable assets for the local business community, for society, you know, people's weddings and personal events have had to be cancelled because of that.

"But the place we're utilizing them, it is proper that we get good worth for cash for the taxpayer.

"And so if single adult males can share a room, and it's legal to do so, which will obviously depend on the size of the accommodation, then we'll ask people to do that.

"I believe that is a very truthful and cheap method," he told Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg.

He said people arriving in small boats "danger cannibalising the compassion" of the UK public.

He also told Sophy Ridge On Sunday on Sky News young men putting "overwhelming stress" on the asylum system are making it harder for the country to support people who "genuinely want our assist."
