new documentary following the “meteoric ascent to success” of 80s pop sensation Wham! might be launched on Netflix subsequent month.
The 90-minute movie, titled Wham!, will give a “genuinely authentic account” of the bands rise, instructed by former bandmates Andrew Ridgeley and the late George Michael.
It is due for launch on Netflix on July 5.
Announcing the news on Twitter, Ridgeley wrote: I'm delighted to convey you the news that WHAM!, the documentary movie, is coming to Netflix on fifth July 2023.
“It is a genuinely authentic account of WHAM!’s meteoric ascent to success and of how WHAM! came to find such a special place in the hearts of many.”
Wham! will discover the story of teenage greatest buddies Ridgeley and Michael, who went on to provide a spate of timeless pop songs together with Club Tropicana, Wake Me Up Before You Go Go, and Last Christmas.
During their time within the highlight they grew to become the very first western pop act to play in China.
Wham! is directed by Chris Smith and produced by John Battsek and Simon Halfon.
The movie affords “unprecedented access” to each Ridgeley and Michael’s private archive together with never-before-seen footage, alongside uncommon, candid and beforehand unheard interviews.
Frontman turned solo singer Michael died on Christmas Day in 2016 on the age of 53.
