Nigel Farage's financial institution has been left red-faced, as clients have forged doubt on the excuse they used for closing the previous MEP's checking account.
Mr Farage had his account with Coutts closed earlier this yr.
Sources near Coutts instructed the BBC that the previous MEP fell under the wealth threshold.
They claimed he was subsequently provided an ordinary account at Natwest, which owns Coutts.
People conversant in Coutts mentioned it was a "commercial" choice.
They added: "The criteria for holding a Coutts account are clear from the bank's website."
Coutts requires its clients to borrow or make investments a minimum of Β£1m with the financial institution or maintain Β£3m in financial savings.
But many customers of the prestigious bank said they fell below financial thresholds however, not like Mr Farage, haven't been threatened with account closure.
While Mr Farage didn't dispute the truth that he had fallen under Coutts' monetary threshold, he instructed the BBC: "They didn't have a problem with it for the last 10 years."
The TV character mentioned he contacted seven different banks and was denied accounts.
