The TV host opened up on his affair with a youthful co-worker at ITV's This Morning, branding it a "grave error". In his first interview since his bombshell assertion was launched final month, Mr Schofield appeared emotional as he stated he doubted he would ever make a return to a profession in TV following the explosive scandal. Speaking with the BBC's Amol Rajan, he stated: "I have to talk about television in the past tense, which breaks my heart. I have lost everything."

His profession, he candidly admitted, is "over". He additionally stated throughout the interview: "What am I going to do with my days?"

"I see nothing ahead of me but blackness, and sadness, and regret, and remorse, and guilt.

"I did one thing very flawed, after which I lied about it persistently."

The TV host added he was "desperately sorry" and didn't hide the fact he has been hugely struggling since the scandal exploded.

He said: "Last week, if my daughters hadn't been there, I would not be right here. 

"They've been by my side every moment because they're scared to let me out of their sight."

During the interview, Mr Schofield offered extra particulars concerning the affair, saying he and the unnamed colleague weren't "boyfriends" they usually solely had 5 or 6 romantic encounters over the course of some months.

Mr Schofield confirmed he first met the person he would go on to have an affair with when he was invited to look as a part of an occasion at a drama faculty a number of years in the past.
