Residents in a well-liked seaside city have mentioned it's being ruined by newbuild houses after claiming it's ruining the picturesque space. Wells-next-to-the-Sea, in north Norfolk, goes to host 51 new homes which are being constructed within the space to maintain up with the demand for properties. But livid locals have mentioned the city is already "overcrowded" and urged consumers to "go somewhere else".

Norfolk resident Derek instructed The Sun: "Go build somewhere else - Norfolk is already overcrowded.

"Proper north Norfolk of us cannot afford to reside right here, we're standing on our heads.

"The second homeowners only reappear when the sun starts to shine.

"If you are not an area you'll by no means perceive."

Wells is a popular seaside destination for Brits looking for a staycation, with over a third of properties currently being used as second homes or holiday homes.

Average house prices stand at 14 times above the average household income.

Developer Holkham Estate, which is owned by House of Lords peer the Earl of Leicester, is Norfolk's largest private estate - at over 25,000 acres, including most of the land around Wells.

It said that 10 percent of the newbuilds would be rented out to Wells locals - while the rest would become social housing or sold to the highest bidder.

Holkham boss James Bracey instructed Eastern Daily Press: "We are keenly conscious of the issue native folks face to find reasonably priced lodging in one of the vital sought-after places to reside and go to within the nation."

The newbuild complex would have 1.5acres of open space, with 45 percent of the properties being put up for private sale.

Despite the backlash, some locals were more optimistic about the planned newbuilds in the pretty seaside town.

Housing campaigner Lynne Burdon said: "This represents one step in the appropriate route for us, as we've got 46 households ready for houses, and 6 are homeless, so it's a huge assist."
