Paris Saint-Germain suspended Lionel Messi for 2 weeks after the World Cup champion took an unauthorized journey to Saudi Arabia, French media reported on May 2.

The suspension means Messi would miss PSG's subsequent two video games and comes at a fragile time because the French membership hopes to increase the Argentine star's contract past this season.

L'Equipe and RMC Sport each reported the suspension with out citing sources.

The membership didn't instantly reply to a request by The Associated Press for remark.

Messi's journey adopted PSG's shock 3-1 loss to Lorient on Sunday, leaving the defending champions with a five-point lead over Marseille with 5 video games left within the season. Messi performed the complete sport.

L'Equipe had reported that PSG coach Christophe Galtier pledged to offer his gamers two days off — Monday and Tuesday — in the event that they beat Lorient. Instead, the staff educated on Monday and had Tuesday off.

Messi has a promotional contract with Saudi Arabia.
