Emma Raducanu deleted a tweet after responding to made-up quotes from Carlos Alcaraz about her newest surgical procedure. The Brit has now undergone two of three procedures which are set to sideline her for a number of months. After confirming her second surgery, a faux Alcaraz remark began circulating on Twitter that Raducanu herself initially fell for.

Raducanu underwent ankle surgical procedure on Friday morning, two days after announcing her decision to miss several months of competition to undergo three procedures. The 20-year-old confirmed the news with an impromptu Instagram reside stream from her hospital mattress following the operation.

And it prompted a false remark from Alcaraz to start circulating on Twitter after the ATP world No 2 received his Madrid Open semi-final. On what was the Spaniard’s twentieth birthday, he was quoted as saying: “I want to dedicate this day to Emma Raducanu who had surgery today.

“I wish her a very, very speedy recovery, she doesn’t deserve any of this. I wish she comes back fast on court and maybe play some mixed doubles, I always wanted that.” The quotes had been posted alongside a photograph of Alcaraz being interviewed for Tennis Channel and a snap of Raducanu in hospital following her first hand surgical procedure.

And the faux remarks caught some individuals out - together with Raducanu herself. On Saturday morning, the British No 1 replied to the tweet earlier than swiftly deleting it, possible as soon as she realised the feedback had been made up.
