RAF fighter jets have escorted a airplane from Kenya into Stansted Airport after a safety alert on board.

Emergency providers rushed to the flight hub after the Kenya Airways Boeing 787 from Nairobi to Heathrow was compelled to divert.

Flight KQ100 touched down on the airport in Essex shortly earlier than 4pm on Thursday (October 12).

Fighter jets from the Royal Air Force reportedly intercepted the airplane with native media reporting eyewitnesses seeing bomb disposal models on the A120 en path to the airport.

An Essex Police spokesperson mentioned: "We are currently attending an incident at Stansted Airport.

"A flight travelling from Nairobi to Heathrow was diverted to Stansted this afternoon. The airport stays open."

An Essex County Fire and Rescue spokesman added: "Eight crews are in attendance at Stansted Airport.

"We are working with Essex Police and the airport to bring the incident to a successful conclusion."

Kenya Airways mentioned in an announcement its headquarters obtained an alert a few "potential security threat" on board the airplane.

The airline mentioned Kenyan and UK safety authorities assessed the danger with the jet's crew knowledgeable of the risk.

It added: "[A]ll safety and security precautions were taken to ensure the safety and security of our crew and passengers on board.
