Gervais' staff have ordered a full safety evaluate forward of his UK tour Armageddon, which begins on Wednesday in Cardiff, based on The Sun.
The 61-year-old comic co-created hit tv reveals corresponding to The Office and After Life.
A supply informed the paper the star has been "made aware threats have been made to his life", together with "disturbing letters".
"Ricky is very aware of the dangers and he can afford whatever security he wants, so he thought it was a no-brainer," they added.
