Rishi Sunak is heading to Washington subsequent week for commerce talks with Joe Biden.

This is his first official go to to Washington since turning into Prime Minister.

He will meet with the US President, in addition to members of Congress and enterprise leaders on Wednesday and Thursday subsequent week.

The Prime Minister's official spokesman stated: "Next week on June 7 and 8, the Prime Minister will visit Washington DC for meetings with President Biden, congressional figures and US business leaders.

The official added: "It may also be a possibility to debate points together with sustaining our help for Ukraine as we construct on the success of our G7 summit within the run-up to the NATO summit."

This comes just weeks after Labour Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves visited Washington to outline the party's economic plans if it gets into Government.

Giving a speech at the Peterson Institute in Washington DC, the MP for Leeds West outlined the party's mission to ensure economic security across the UK.

The strategy involves rebuilding Britain's "industrial basis" by "investing within the sectors and applied sciences that may decide our future financial success", she said.

Ms Reeves dubbed her strategy "securonomics", involving a bigger economic role for the Government.

It would also see the Government cultivating new partnerships with international allies, the Shadow Chancellor said.

She used her speech to praise the US President for "rebuilding America's financial safety" and for the landmark Inflation Reduction Act.

Mr Sunak is attempting to forge better relations with the US, which broke down in the wake of Britain's exit from the European Union.

However, the Biden administration has shown little interest in negotiating a free-trade agreement with the UK.

Discussions had progressed while Donald Trump was president however stalled when Mr Biden got here to energy.
