A 22-year-old lady has had her leg bitten off by a shark whereas snorkelling within the Caribbean.

The lady, who's from Connecticut within the US however has not been named, was taken to hospital in a critical situation on the Turks and Caicos Islands, police mentioned.

She and her buddy had been snorkelling outdoors the Blue Haven Resort close to the Leeward Marina in Providenciales, one of many islands, when the assault occurred simply after 3pm on Wednesday.

Stephanie Mack, a spokeswoman for the resort, mentioned in an announcement: "Our understanding is that she was the guest of another resort and the client of a boat excursion company, neither of which we are affiliated with nor located near."
