A six-year-old boy who caputred the center of Hollywood star and Wrexham AFC co-owner Ryan Reynolds has overwhelmed cancer. Leland, who was identified with a type of blood cancer often called MDS - which may turn into acute leukaemia - in September 2022, has been given the all-clear.

Leland has been by way of an intensive therapy programme which has included chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant.

The therapy was so intensive he needed to keep in isolation on the Great North Children’s Hospital for 4 months earlier than he was capable of return residence on Friday.

Sarah, Leland’s mum, informed ChronicleLive how relieved she was that her son had overwhelmed the illness. She additionally thanked the medical doctors, nurses, and different specialist employees who handled him.

She mentioned: “It’s been a long, hard journey to get to this point. It’s been very emotional and overwhelming, but there’s a sense of relief that he’s been given the all-clear from his cancer.”

She added: “You sit in that room, isolated, and every little noise, every little beep of a buzzer makes you panic.

“But the staff at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, and particularly ward three, the bone marrow ward, have been phenomenal. They come in, they put you at ease, they explain everything to you fully.”

Sarah mentioned the actual fact the medical workforce defined every thing to her was “a massive help” as a result of “as a parent you just want to know that your child is on the right path.”

Sarah wrote: “Today's the day that Leland got to ring that bell. His transplant is complete & onto his next journey, recovery & staying healthy. I can't thank Ward 3 BMT @GreatNorthCH (at the Great North Children's Hospital) enough for fantastic care and treatment, @AnthonyNolan for finding that match, & everyone who has supported him.”

Their hyperlink connection started when Leland was requested to be a mascot for his native workforce Blyth Spartans throughout a match in opposition to Wrexham FC.

Leland’s household responded to Mr Reynolds' help on Twitter, writing: “I can't thank @VancityReynolds (Ryan Reynolds) enough you have been Leland's biggest supporter.

“Your encouragement for people to register as donors has been amazing. You have a best friend for life in Leland and he can't wait to meet you and cheer on @Wrexham_AFC when he is fully recovered.”

Wrexham FC have lately been promoted to League 2. They have been purchased by Ryan Reynolds and fellow actor Rob McElhenney in 2020.
