he UK is to return to the European Union's £85 billion Horizon science analysis programme following months of negotiations.

The Government mentioned a "bespoke" new settlement has been signed off with the EU, with UK researchers in a position to apply for grants and participate in Horizon initiatives.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak mentioned: "We have worked with our EU partners to make sure that this is right deal for the UK, unlocking unparalleled research opportunities, and also the right deal for British taxpayers."

Britain continued to take part beneath the post-Brexit commerce deal brokered with Brussels however was frozen out in a tit-for-tat retaliation in a dispute over Northern Ireland preparations.

The transfer was instantly welcomed by scientists, after years of warnings that UK researchers have been lacking out on collaboration with colleagues within the EU. Horizon is a collaboration involving Europe's main analysis institutes and know-how firms.

The breakthrough comes after months of talks between London and Brussels.

The Government mentioned the UK will affiliate with the Horizon programme, in addition to the EU's area programme, Copernicus.

Newly-appointed shadow science secretary Peter Kyle instructed broadcasters that ministers now have to "get on with it".

"What we're missing out on is two years' worth of innovation.

"Two years of world firms wanting around the globe for the place to base their analysis centres and selecting different international locations than Britain, as a result of we're not a part of Horizon... This is 2 years of wasted alternative for us as a rustic," the Labour MP mentioned.
