Swiss watchmaker Swatch is suing the Malaysian authorities for confiscating rainbow-coloured watches that commemorate LGBTQ rights.

Authorities seized 172 watches from 16 shops in May, in an act Swatch mentioned has broken its repute.

The watches had been confiscated as a result of that they had the letters LGBTQ on them, the house minister mentioned.

Homosexuality is against the law in Malaysia, with individuals punished by jail time or caning. Rights teams have warned of rising intolerance towards the homosexual neighborhood.

"Without a doubt, the seized watches did not and are not in any way capable of causing any disruption to public order or morality or any violations of the law," Swatch mentioned within the lawsuit.

Swatch is in search of damages and the return of the watches, saying its capability to do enterprise within the nation has been "greatly jeopardised" by the seizures.
