Crunch talks have didn't deliver an finish to an unprecedented marking boycott which has led to 1000's of college college students graduating with out grades.

The University and College Union (UCU) met with the physique representing 145 establishments as workers proceed to refuse to mark or assess papers in a fierce row over pay.

The dispute has been ongoing since April and has resulted in clean certificates being issued at ceremonies.

The Universities and Colleges Employers Association (UCEA) has tabled a pay supply value between 5% and eight%.

Union bosses have rejected the rise and blamed, what they name, the "scandalous" disruption on the UCEA.

Amid the fallout, it has emerged some international college students hoping to proceed additional research within the UK are being pressured to return house and reapply for visas as a result of their diploma work is ungraded.

Will Scheffler, a world relations graduate on the University of Edinburgh, instructed Sky News of the stress he's enduring.

The pupil, from Wisconsin within the US, has a suggestion for a Master's diploma on the London School of Economics, however says he must return house earlier than the course begins.

He mentioned: "I am one of several thousand students around the UK who have plans to go on to do post graduate study. Due to the ongoing marking and assessment boycott, we are graduating without a degree classification.

"Obviously there's been a variety of stress and frustration round that, and sadly, it is now began to affect our immigration standing as nicely.

"I'll have to pay upwards of about £1,000 just to get back home to Wisconsin. I have a job here, I pay rent on a flat here as well."

The Home Office instructed Sky News there have been numerous choices open to international college students.

A spokeswoman mentioned: "Students who wish to progress their studies without their results can request a letter of formal written confirmation from their sponsor assessing the student is highly likely to complete their course successfully.

Mary Senior, UCU's Scotland representative, said she was grateful that negotiators met on Friday in a bid to resolve the row.

She said: "We are relieved the employers have lastly come again to the negotiating desk. They want to deal with the disruption we have now seen within the college sector.

"It has been scandalous that students have been graduating with empty scrolls. Our members are resolute, and the employers need to make an offer that can resolve this dispute."

UCU and UCEA issued a joint assertion following the talks.

A spokesperson mentioned: "Today's exploratory talks between UCEA, UCU and the other joint unions' side secretary were constructive, although there is still significant ground to be covered.

"We have explored obstacles to resuming negotiations and bringing an finish to the marking and evaluation boycott, with each side recognising the complexity of the problems.

"Both sides welcomed the positive tone of the discussion and have identified dates for further urgent talks."
