The researchers ranked Mackenzie Beach in Cyprus and Spiaggia La Cinta in Sardinia in the top five.

Other popular European beaches that are expected to shrink considerably include Poetto beach in Cagliari, Italy, Plage d'Hendaye in France and Praia da Rocha Baixinha in Albufeira, Portugal.

Commenting on the study, HawaiianIslands.com said: "Every nation with a seashore has its personal seashore tradition, and historic photographs of seashores are among the many most nostalgic that we discover in our collective archives.

"But the fact that beaches are also at the front line of rising sea levels tends to be something many of us know without thinking about it too much in the grand scale of the climate crisis.

"In reality, shrinking seashores make for a stark visible reminder of what we're to lose with out dramatic efforts from world powers.

The Royal Society had warned that if greenhouse gases proceed to extend on their present trajectories, then sea ranges could rise by 1.3 to 2.6 toes by 2100.

In a current report, they wrote: "Rising sea levels will not stop in 2100.

"They shall be a lot greater within the following centuries as the ocean continues to take up warmth and glaciers proceed to retreat."
