UK negotiators held secret talks with EU officers over Rishi Sunak's Brexit deal for Northern Ireland in a bid to finish the DUP's Stormont boycott, based on studies.
The discussions in Brussels have been a part of efforts to revive the devolved authorities in Northern Ireland forward of Thursday's deadline for a contemporary election.
The DUP pulled out of Stormont in February 2022 in protest at post-Brexit commerce preparations for the province.
The British officers conceded there was no room for any renegotiation of the Windsor Framework, which changed the Northern Ireland Protocol.
But they requested the EU for beneficial language on the implementation of the inexperienced lane system, which permits fewer checks for items from Great Britain destined for Northern Ireland.
