Mick Whelan, the Secretary General of prepare drivers union ASLEF, has issued a stark menace to the Government over their incoming strike laws.

He warned that the present rail strikes may get 5 instances worse as a retaliation for the Government passing the Minimum Service Bill.

The Minimum Service Levels Bill, which can quickly develop into legislation, will drive some public providers - together with the rail community - to at all times preserve a primary service even on strike days.

When requested by TalkTV’s Tom Newton Dunn if this may be "the moment you really have lost", Mr Whelan responded: "Not really. I think all that happens is it takes us five days to have one day's action, you make strike harder and longer, you make the ability to recover from it more difficult.

"And I see issues getting worse. Also, we consider this laws is inherently unsafe. So there is a lengthy technique to go but."

He continued: "Well, we will work round, if we will take sooner or later's motion, we'll now take 5 if the degrees are 20 %.

"That's one obvious thing. Also, we are safety-critical staff.

"If our focus is impacted for any purpose, proper, and we really feel it is unsafe, then we do not need to work and shouldn't be pressured to work."

Mr Whelan also warned that any resolution with the Government is "additional away than ever".

He continued: "At what level can we, after 4 years and not using a pay rise, should get folks's consideration? How can we articulate the voice of the folks we characterize?

"And at what point are people going to listen to us? Now, this can't go on forever.

"We'd like a decision tomorrow. We'd have appreciated a decision 14 months in the past when this began."

When asked whether the unions would strike for two or three weeks in a row, Mr Whelan said: "It's a risk, I imply, that'll be determined by my board, which is eight prepare drivers.

"But yeah, it could be more strikes. It could be overtime bans. It could be a combination of both. But we can't be here in three years time, can we?"

Rail strikes happening over half-term this week are set to cost the hospitality industry up to £100million in misplaced gross sales, with the walkout wreaking havoc on the FA Cup final.

Pubs have already been hit with a wave of cancellations because of the economic motion.

Members of the RMT union have voted for one more six months of motion in response to the continuing pay dispute after they rejected a 9 % pay deal with out placing it to their members.

The UK will see strike motion from the ASLEF union on Wednesday 31 May and Saturday 3 June.

Meanwhile, the RMT union will stage a walkout on Friday 2 June.

The strike will see 20,000 prepare managers, caterers and station employees all stroll off the job. As many as 19 rail traces can be affected.
