Cornet suffered a painful knee harm at 5-5 within the second set when she twisted and fell to the bottom. The teary star required heavy strapping in a prolonged medical timeout and the difficulty in the end hampered her from producing a comeback.

Rybakina knew she was in a recreation, particularly within the second set. She stated: "I started the match with good energy, but it became tougher in the second. I wasn’t pushing as good with the legs.

"That was a tough, lengthy recreation (at 5-5). So, a troublesome match, however I’m pleased to win in two units and attain one other spherical."
