Emergency companies scrambled after fuel explosion wreaks devastation injuring 16

A significant explosion within the Colombian metropolis of Medellin has left 16 folks injured, three severely. A member of the local fire brigade told Noticias Caracol: “‌On arrival at the site we realised that there was indeed an explosion inside a four-storey structure, directly affecting a hotel and a stationery shop. 

“At the moment, the causes are unknown, we actually have 6 houses affected by the blast wave. We also have four commercial premises affected, 11 people were given initial attention, three of whom are in serious condition and were taken to the nearest hospitals”.

In a video posted by DAGRD glass might be seen strewn throughout the road and several other vehicles seem to have been left on the scene whereas the authorities clear up the carnage.

In a tweet DAGRD mentioned: “Official Medellín Fire Department, attends at this moment an explosion by a helium cylinder in a commercial premises in the Bolivarian sector. To address the situation, the basic services of water, energy and gas are closed.”

In a separate report it was claimed that round 30 entrance doorways on the road had been broken within the blast.

Medellin is especially well-known for being the birthplace of the infamous Medellin cartel, run by internationally recognisable druglord Pablo Escobar.
