5-year-old boy dies after being knocked down by aged driver

A five-year-old boy who died after being hit by a automobile pushed by an aged man has been described as a “beacon of light” as his household pays tribute.

Alfie Darby was tragically struck by a Jeep Cherokee on Anzac Ave in Collaroy, Sydney, on Sunday afternoon after wandering off from a rugby recreation.

Despite efforts from bystanders and paramedics, he died simply hours later on the Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The driver, a 77-year-old man, was unhurt and was taken to hospital the place he underwent obligatory testing.

In an announcement, NSW Police stated specialist police had been enlisted to look at the scene and a report can be supplied to the coroner.

According to reviews, Alfie, who has 4 older siblings, had travelled from Dural, about an hour away, to look at the sport along with his household.

The Dural Rugby Club shared a message on social media remembering Alfie’s “smiling face”.

“Dural Rugby Club sends all our love, thoughts and prayers to the Darby family after the tragic passing of their son Alfie yesterday, who was always a smiling face when playing in our u6’s and around the club,” the membership stated.

A memorial has been arrange by members of the Collaroy Rugby Club at Griffith Park.

A fundraiser arrange on behalf of the Darby household stated the well-known members of the neighborhood have been gracious, type and all the time welcoming.

The GoFundMe page stated: “On Sunday, July 30, 2023, the world lost a beacon of light and heaven gained an angel.

“Their house is all the time full of kids and there may be all the time an invitation for a cup of tea or espresso once you arrive on the door.”

Witness Susie Belenzuela described the crash as “any father or mother’s worst nightmare”.

“Our hearts exit to that household, truly everybody concerned, it is simply any father or mother’s worst nightmare,” she advised 7NEWS.
