Gary Prado Salmon: Bolivian normal who captured Che Guevara dies

Ernesto “Che” Guevara’s captor, a former Bolivian normal, has died on the age of 84.

Gary Prado Salmon was named a nationwide hero in Bolivia after he led the army operation to seize and execute the revolutionary within the nation in 1967.

Alongside Fidel Castro, Guevara was a serious chief within the Cuban communist motion and was shot useless a day after his seize by order of the then right-wing army Bolivian authorities.

Mr Salmon’s group, often known as the Bolivian Rangers, have been skilled by the US Green Berets, who have been informed to organize locals for a battle towards guerrilla techniques within the area.

Since 1981, Mr Salmon had been in a wheelchair, after being by accident shot within the backbone by one other officer.

Writing on social media, Mr Salmon’s son Gary Prado Arauz, wrote: “He was accompanied by his wife and children.

“He left us a legacy of affection, honesty and mettle. He was a tremendous particular person.”

He added: “For him capturing Che was not an important factor he did in his life – somewhat, it was to contribute to creating the armed forces a democratic establishment that might respect the structure and legal guidelines.”

The former normal had been in hospital since April affected by well being problems and was receiving therapy.
