Greta Thunberg: Climate activist charged with disobeying police order at protest

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has been charged with disobeying a police order throughout a protest in Sweden.

The 20-year-old environmental campaigner was arrested after allegedly refusing to go away the demonstration within the southern metropolis of Malmo on 19 June.

Activists reportedly blocked oil tankers within the harbour.

A press release by Swedish prosecutors stated a “young woman” – confirmed as Ms Thunberg by the prosecution company – was charged as a result of she “refused to comply with police orders to leave the scene”.

The crime of disobedience is usually punishable with a superb if convicted, however there’s a likelihood the Swede might resist six months in jail.

Ms Thunberg posted on Instagram through the protest saying: “The climate crisis is already a matter of life and death for countless people.

“We selected to not be bystanders, and as a substitute bodily cease the fossil gas infrastructure. We are reclaiming the long run.”

Prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen stated: “You have the freedom to demonstrate, but you must not demonstrate in such a way that it causes disturbances for others.”

Ms Thunberg will reportedly face a trial on the finish of July.
