Nigeria: At least 100 folks killed after boat capsizes

At least 100 folks have been killed after a ship capsized in northern Nigeria, police have stated.

A seek for survivors is below means after the boat overturned on the River Niger on Monday morning (12 June), near neighbouring Niger state, Kwara state police spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi stated.

The victims, together with youngsters, have been coming back from an in a single day wedding ceremony ceremony within the Niger state village of Egboti, a resident within the space, Usman Ibrahim, stated.

Mr Ibrahim stated: “People in the boat were to take their bikes to their various communities [upon disembarking]. The boat was carrying more than 100 people when it sank.”

He added that as a result of the accident occurred within the early hours of the morning – at round 3am – not many knew about it till hours later.

“Up till now, some dead bodies are still being searched [for],” he stated.

It just isn’t clear if there are any survivors but.
