Turkey’s chief will again Sweden becoming a member of Nato in ‘historic step’, says Stoltenberg
Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s objections have held up the method of Sweden becoming a member of the navy alliance since final 12 months.

“I’m glad to announce … that President Erdogan has agreed to forward the accession protocol for Sweden to the grand national assembly as soon as possible, and work closely with the assembly to ensure ratification,” he advised a news convention.
He described it as a “historic step”, but stressed that a “clear date” couldn’t be given for when Sweden may be part of the navy alliance.
The announcement got here after talks with Mr Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on the eve of a Nato summit in Lithuania.
Sweden and Finland utilized to hitch Nato final 12 months, casting apart insurance policies of navy non-alignment after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
