Nuclear disaster fears as Putin blows up main dam in Russian-seized area

Kyiv has claimed that Russia blew up a hydroelectric dam that provides water to the close by Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned “Russian terrorists” blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric energy plant dam this morning, with unverified footage posted on-line displaying water surging over the damaged barrier.

Officials and consultants have warned that the act by Russia may endanger a whole lot of 1000’s of lives, with the hazard going past the close by plant.

Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine‘s international minister, mentioned the act was a “heinous war crime” that might have catastrophic penalties.

Writing on Twitter, he mentioned: “Russia destroyed the Kakhovka dam inflicting most likely Europe’s largest technological catastrophe in a long time and placing 1000’s of civilians in danger.

“This is a heinous struggle crime. The solely option to cease Russia, the best terrorist of the twenty first century, is to kick it out of Ukraine.”

Mustafa Nayyem, head of State Agency for Restoration of Ukraine, shared an analogous warning on the social media platform this morning.

He mentioned the destruction of the dam may have “catastrophic penalties” for the nuclear plant, which “makes use of water from the Kahovka reservoir to chill nuclear reactors”.
