Nadine Dorries standing down as MP with ‘fast impact’ triggering by-election

Nadine Dorries has introduced she is standing down as a Conservative MP “with immediate effect”.

In a tweet, the previous cupboard minister stated: “I’ve immediately knowledgeable the chief whip that I’m standing down because the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, with fast impact.

“It has been an honour to serve as the MP for such a wonderful constituency but it is now time for someone younger to take the reins.”

Ms Dorries had beforehand stated she will not be contesting her seat on the subsequent election.

The early resignation means there’ll a by-election in her constituency and follows studies she has been dropped from Boris Johnson’s honours checklist.

Ms Dorries, an in depth ally of the previous prime minister, has served as MP for Mid Bedfordshire since 2005 and can be a best-selling novelist.

Her promotion to tradition secretary below Mr Johnson’s premiership noticed her lead the now-ditched plan to privatise Channel 4.
