Suspected human stays present in lacking lady case – homicide investigation launched

Police investigating the disappearance of a 21-year-old lady have launched a homicide investigation after discovering “suspected human remains”.

Chloe Mitchell, 21, was final seen by her household on the night of Friday, 2 June, however she was captured on CCTV within the early hours of the next morning.

Two males, aged 26 and 34, had been arrested in relation to her disappearance.

The suspected stays had been present in Ballymena, County Antrim, the place Ms Mitchell was from.

She was described by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) as a “high risk missing person”.

In an announcement, detective chief inspector Richard Millar mentioned: “Sadly today detectives have recovered suspected human remains in Ballymena, and while there has been no formal identification, we have now launched a murder enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 21-year-old Chloe Mitchell, who was a high risk missing person.

“Earlier this week we launched a legal investigation into Chloe’s disappearance. Tragically, we now have purpose to consider that Chloe was murdered.

“Our thoughts this evening are very much with Chloe’s family and we have specialist officers providing them with support at this heart-breaking time.

“I wish to thank the group in Ballymena and the Search and Rescue groups for his or her assist in looking for Chloe.

“Two men, aged 26 and 34, remain in police custody helping police with their enquiries. Further details will follow in due course.”
