Canadian Open safety guard flattens Adam Hadwin after Nick Taylor playoff win

Nick Taylor’s beautiful Canadian Open playoff victory took a weird twist when compatriot and fellow PGA golfer Adam Hadwin was flattened by a safety guard on the 18th inexperienced. Canadian Taylor had simply crushed Britain’s Tommy Fleetwood after sinking a monster putt for an eagle.

Played out within the Toronto rain, Taylor’s 72-foot putt was sufficient to earn him his third PGA tour win and in doing so he grew to become the primary homegrown participant to win the Canadian Open since Pat Fletcher in 1954.

A pumped-up crowd celebrated wildly as Taylor sunk the longest putt of his profession, however as his shut good friend Hadwin raced onto the 18th inexperienced spraying a bottle of champagne, he was intercepted by a burley safety guard who bundled him to the ground, earlier than a number of different safety personnel moved in to restrain him.

The overzealous safety guard had assumed that Hadwin, who was sporting a hoodie, was an overexcited spectator who had sneaked by means of safety to run onto the inexperienced.

Speaking concerning the incident in a press convention after his historic triumph, Taylor mentioned: “Out of the nook of my eye I noticed he acquired a pleasant deal with there. I hope he’s alright. He was upright after I noticed him later. So I hope he doesn’t get up with any damaged ribs or something.”

Hadwin is ranked 75th in the world and had finished tied for 12th in the tournament on 11 under par. After the incident, his wife Jessica later Tweeted an update on his condition, saying: “I’m thrilled to report that Adam Hadwin is still in the land of the living and in true Canadian form apologised to the security guard for being tackled.”

Taylor’s sensational winning putt denied Fleetwood a first-ever title on the PGA Tour, with the Southport-born star finishing the tournament on 17 under. Speaking after the playoff Fleetwood, who has now finished as a PGA Tour runner-up on five occasions, said: “Nice second for Nick and the followers right here. So it is nice to be part of that Sunday and that play-off. I had my probabilities, actually. It wasn’t to be this time. But, yeah, congratulations to him.”

Fleetwood and Taylor both birdied the first additional hole before parring the next two before the Canadian’s monster Eagle settled the matter in his favour.

After becoming the first Canadian winner of the event in 69 years, Taylor said: “This is for all the fellows by means of the years, that is for my household at house. To sort of break that curse, if you wish to name it’s, I’m fairly speechless.

“With the rain coming down, the slope, obviously, we knew it was going to be slow. To get it there was, obviously, a bit of a surprise honestly. For that to drop is – it was a huge surprise but an amazing one.”
