EU ‘scared’ Trump 2024 win would play into Putin’s arms over Ukraine

Figures within the EU are “scared” that Donald Trump changing into US President once more may harm Ukraine‘s warfare effort towards Russia.

During his time as President, Trump was accused of threatening to withhold army help from Kyiv and allegedly attempting to persuade President Volodymyr Zelensky to analyze Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

This led to the impeachment trial, after which the Senate voted to acquit Trump.

However, with Trump set to run for the White House once more in 2024, many in Europe worry he may deal a devastating blow to the Ukrainian warfare effort if he retakes energy.

Referring to Trump’s earlier hostility with leaders in Ukraine, Radosław Sikorski, Polish MEP and former Foreign and Defense Minister, informed CNN: “We don’t forget that in Europe, by the way.”

He added: “My working assumption is if Donald Trump were president now, he would make a pilgrimage to Moscow instead of to Kyiv.”

Meanwhile, an unnamed member of the European Parliament’s defence subcommittee simply said of Trump’s potential impact on the war in Ukraine: “I’m scared.”

A former senior US military commander also said that “they’re talking about it (Trump and Ukraine) in the rest of the world”.

He added: “I used to talk to him about it. I’d say, ‘Better not do it. We had a very friendly conversation about it. I said, ‘Hey, Vladimir … you can’t go into Ukraine’.”

Speaking to GB News on Wednesday, Trump informed Nigel Farage that he would finish the Ukraine warfare in “one day” had been he to develop into president.

He stated: “If I were president, I [would] end that war in one day. It’ll take 24 hours. I will get that ended. It would be easy.

“That deal would be easy. A lot of it has to do with the money. That war has to be stopped. It is a disaster.”

There can also be concern amongst some within the US in regards to the wider Republican Party’s view on the warfare in Ukraine.

Last October, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy stated there must be no “blank cheque” on US army help to Ukraine. He has, nonetheless, backed help for Kyiv whereas he’s Speaker.

Other figures, comparable to far-right Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, have known as for the US to halt its help altogether.

In March, she stated: “I believe the US must be pushing for peace in Ukraine as a substitute of funding and persevering with a warfare that appears to be escalating and placing the whole world susceptible to World War Three.”
