Angus MacNeil: SNP MP has social gathering membership suspended

Angus MacNeil’s SNP membership has been suspended amid a probe into the MP’s determination to not rejoin the social gathering’s Westminster group.
The Western Isles MP announced on Wednesday he would proceed to take a seat as an unbiased following per week’s suspension handed down after a row with the social gathering’s chief whip, Brendan O’Hara.
Mr MacNeil stated his determination was not linked to that incident, and as a substitute criticised the SNP over its independence technique.
He branded the social gathering “utterly clueless” over its plan and stated the “urgency for independence is absent”.
He stated he would solely rejoin following the social gathering’s convention in October if it “is clear that the SNP are pursuing independence”.
Following his declaration, Mr MacNeil was contacted by the SNP’s nationwide secretary on Wednesday and suggested his determination was reportedly in breach of the social gathering’s code of conduct.
The matter has since been referred to the social gathering’s member conduct committee, with Mr MacNeil’s social gathering membership administratively suspended whereas the committee considers the matter.
Mr MacNeil, who has sat within the House of Commons since 2005, informed Sky News: “I did not leave the SNP and I hope the SNP haven’t left me, as that was what went wrong with Labour in Scotland.”

An SNP spokesperson stated: “Angus MacNeil MP was advised by the SNP national secretary on Wednesday that she considered him to be in breach of the party’s code of conduct by his decision to resign from the SNP Westminster parliamentary group.
“Having acknowledged this, Mr MacNeil didn’t take up the provide to rejoin the SNP parliamentary group and the matter was, due to this fact, yesterday referred to the SNP member conduct committee for consideration.”
