Lord Heseltine was humiliated on Brexit by a former Australian Prime Minister

Former Conservative Deputy Prime Minister Lord Heseltine was “made to look silly” at a dinner to mark the two hundredth anniversary of the Oxford Union after his rant towards Brexit provoked a humourous response from one other visitor of honour.

Lord Heseltine, a graduate of Oxford University and former President of the Oxford Union, gave the principle speech celebrating the illustrious anniversary.

The speech went down nicely however ended with what one visitor described to Express.co.uk as “Hezza’s typical pompous Remoaner rant towards Brexit and Brexiteers”.

The former Deputy Prime Minister, who performed a big function within the People’s Vote marketing campaign to reverse the EU referendum outcome, has refused to let go of the subject even after the UK ended Brussels rule.

Historically, it was his love of the EU which pushed him to face towards Margaret Thatcher within the management contest and drive her downfall though Sir John Major beat him to develop into Prime Minister.

The Tory peer was often known as Tarzan in his days as an MP and minister due to his flowing wild wanting hair.

But he needed to endure a verbal swing from former Prime Minister Tony Abbott who adopted him with a vote of thanks.

Abbott, a supporter of Brexit, believes that leaving the EU has helped renew the Commonwealth and switch Britain into a world nation once more.

He wrote about his intervention on the dinner in an article for the Spectator Australia.

He stated: “Heseltine gave a fine speech, except for his final instruction to the young people present to lead Britain back into the EU.

“My function was to suggest the toast: ‘To the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth – closer than in decades,’ I added, ‘thanks to Brexit’. Cheeky, however I feel I acquired away with it!”

Mr Abbott recounted the occasion in a bit about how the claims that Brexit has damaged Britain are “a delusion”.

He said: “After efficiently bringing into being the Australia-Britain commerce deal (constructing on Liz Truss’ good work) Badenoch’s subsequent problem is to seal a take care of India, the world’s fastest-growing giant financial system and the important strategic counter-weight to communist China, and to mattress down Britain’s accession to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

“The fact that the world’s best free-trading partnership has welcomed in ‘Global Britain’ speaks volumes for its standing in the world.”

He went on: “So much for the self-flagellating tosh about Britain being ‘racist’.

“In truth, fashionable Britain, like the remainder of the Anglosphere, is sort of utterly colour-blind, as you’d count on within the nation that has given the world its widespread language, the mom of parliaments, the commercial revolution and the emancipation of minorities, and whose Royal Navy ended the trans-Atlantic slave commerce.”
