Scots ‘astonished’ as 15.7 million bushes felled by SNP to develop wind farms

Scots have been left in “astonishment” after it was revealed the SNP lower down thousands and thousands of bushes to construct wind farms.

Rural affairs secretary Mairi Gougeon admitted the occasion had felled almost 16 million bushes to make room for the brand new challenge as a part of the SNP’s plans to make Scotland internet zero over the following ten years.

Reacting to the controversial transfer, Tory MSP Liam Kerr stated “astonishing is the right word”.

Appearing on GB News he added: “Not just astonishment at the numbers that we are talking about but the fact of it.”

Estimations recommend round 15.7 million bushes have been lower down since 2000, the equal of 1,700 per day.

The bushes had been lower down on land managed by company Forestry and Land Scotland with the SNP insisting planning was in favour of defending woodland and “compensatory planting elsewhere”.

Confirming the numbers this week, Ms Gougeon stated: “This gives an estimated total of 15.7 million trees which have been felled in order to facilitate windfarm development.

“Removal ought to solely be permitted the place it will obtain vital and clearly outlined further public advantages.

“Where woodland is removed in association with development, developers will generally be expected to provide compensatory planting in order to avoid a net loss of woodland.”

Scotland is home to Whitelee Windfarm in Glasgow, Europe’s biggest onshore windfarm with 215 turbines generating up to 539 megawatts of electricity, capable of powering over 350,000 homes.

While Ms Gougeon attempted to reassure people saying the felled trees have been “replanted on-site” or somewhere new, Mr Kerr said he has been contacted “many occasions” with questions over the developments and “authentic considerations” over the “visible affect” as well as the “injury to wildlife and enterprise”.

The SNP targets embrace changing current generators coming to the top of their life with taller and bigger variations.

The occasion’s formidable ten-year goal units a goal date for internet zero emissions of all greenhouse gases by 2045.
