PGA Tour announce new function for Tiger Woods forward of LIV Golf merger

Tiger Woods has agreed to hitch the PGA Tour’s Policy Board as a participant director, following its controversial merger with Saudi-backed LIV Golf. The new place will see the 82-time PGA Tour champion work to uphold the PGA’s values of being a player-driven group.

Woods is the sixth participant director on the board. Other members embody Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, Rory McIlroy and Webb Simpson.

The appointment, made by PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, will see gamers be part of the board as a part of new transparency and governance measures. The board will be sure that gamers are higher represented in Tour issues and have extra of a say.

The news comes months after the 2 rival excursions agreed to merge, blindsiding each gamers and followers. The merger put an finish to the continued litigation battle and can see LIV Golf defectors, reminiscent of Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka, be allowed to rejoin PGA Tour occasions.

Following the news, Woods spoke out about his new function in an announcement. “I am honored to represent the players of the PGA Tour,” he said.

“This is a critical point for the Tour, and the players will do their best to make certain that any changes that are made in Tour operations are in the best interest of all Tour stakeholders, including fans, sponsors and players.

“The players thank commissioner Monahan for agreeing to address our concerns, and we look forward to being at the table with him to make the right decisions for the future of the game that we all love. He has my confidence moving forward with these changes.”

Monahan echoed Woods’ assertion, saying:  “Tiger’s voice and leadership throughout his career have contributed immeasurably to the success of the PGA Tour, and to apply both to our governance and go-forward plan at this crucial time is even more welcomed and impactful.

“I am committed to taking the necessary steps to restore any lost trust or confidence that occurred as a result of the surprise announcement of our Framework Agreement. My job in the negotiations – in partnership with our player directors, PAC and the broader membership – is to advocate for what is best for the PGA Tour members today and in the future. Any agreement we reach must be shaped by our members’ input and approval earned through our player directors.”

Woods’ new function shall be in impact forward of the Wyndham Championship going down Aug. 3-6 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
