Bomb disposal group known as in and 80 evacuated after ‘hazardous supplies’ present in Glasgow flat

Around 80 folks had been evacuated and a bomb disposal group known as in after “hazardous material” was present in a flat in east Glasgow, Police Scotland stated.

Police arrived on the flat in Shettleston shortly after 5pm on Monday and remained onsite nicely into Tuesday morning.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene whereas officers tried to find out the character of the supplies.

Residents had been allowed to return to their houses on Tuesday morning.

Chief Superintendent Alan Waddell stated: “Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and there might be a continued police presence within the space. We are working carefully with our companions.

“I would like to thank residents and motorists for their patience whilst we dealt with this incident.

“There was no hazard to the broader public.”

Alytre Street, Dalness Street, Ard Street and Trainard Avenue had been closed in a single day however reopened on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated: “We had been alerted at 5.39pm on Monday, 7 August to experiences of an incident involving suspected hazardous supplies at a property on Altyre Street, Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised a number of resources to the scene, including specialist HAZMAT units.”
