Gary Neville wades into ‘horrible’ Greenwood remedy after Man Utd assertion
Gary Neville has blasted Manchester United for the membership’s extended course of in deciding on Mason Greenwood’s future. On Monday, United introduced that Greenwood would not proceed his profession at Old Trafford after finishing a six-month investigation into his January 2022 arrest.
United suspended the 21-year-old that month after pictures and voice recordings alleging bodily assaults emerged on-line.
In October of that 12 months, Greenwood was charged with tried rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour.
The United No 11 has at all times denied all allegations, and in February this 12 months, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all costs towards him.
After an intensive probe, United have introduced they’re happy that Greenwood did not commit the alleged bodily assault, however he has mutually agreed to renew his profession elsewhere.
And forward of Arsenal’s journey to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Neville publicised his ideas on the saga.
“Yes, they have made the right decision and finally got there,” Neville instructed Sky Sports at the beginning of Monday Night Football.
“I think it was clear from day one for me and everyone else that saw that evidence [images and voice recording] that was initially released that he would not play for Manchester United again. However, the process of getting there has been pretty horrible.
“Manchester United, when you have got important conditions and tough conditions like this, you want robust and authoritative management, and Manchester United do not have that.
“On an issue like domestic abuse and violence against women, it brings me to the third point that there needs to be an independent review.
“It shouldn’t be that Manchester United are the choose and jury on a major state of affairs, not just for themselves but in addition for the sport.
“People talk about the representation of Manchester United, but it’s the Premier League as well. My view is on issues of this importance and severity.
“They needs to be handled independently as a result of it is clear that Manchester United haven’t had the talent and skill to take care of this example – it has been properly above their expertise and skill.”
Greenwood remains contracted to United after the club reportedly weren’t convinced there were grounds to terminate his current £75,000-a-week deal, which runs until 2025.
And it’s unclear whether the Red Devils will look to reach a settlement over the remainder of his contract, loan Greenwood out for a season, or look to sell him before the summer transfer deadline.
