Toss England selected to bat vs New Zealand

England gave a debut to Gus Atkinson and selected to bat first after successful toss for the second T20I at Old Trafford. Atkinson is available in for Luke Wood in the one change from the XI that received the primary T20I up in Chester-le-Street so emphatically.

Atkinson was unknown to many outdoors his county, Surrey, initially of the summer time however has shot up the pecking order with a sequence of spectacular shows, together with within the Hundred for champions, Oval Invincbles, for whom he was clocked at 95mph/152kph.

“Really excited for him to get this chance,” Jos Buttler stated. “He’s got some great attributes, not expecting too much just backing him to do his thing. He’s got extra pace, and pace and create wickets. Not too worried about runs, guys who can bowl fast can sometimes leak runs but hopefully he’ll create some chances for us.

New Zealand were unchanged, with Tim Southee admitting he too would have preferred to bowl first – and calling for his side to put on a better showing after being swept aside in the first match of four.

“Looks a fairly good floor so hopefully we will bowled properly and prohibit them to a good rating,” he said. “New floor, new floor, we’ve to adapt shortly.”
