Polls to open for native authorities elections in Northern Ireland

P

olling stations will open later as voting begins in Northern Ireland’s native authorities elections.

Voters might be electing 462 councillors throughout the 11 councils in Northern Ireland.

Polling stations might be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday.

It is the primary electoral check for the events since final 12 months’s Assembly elections and takes place towards the backdrop of the continued Stormont stalemate with the powersharing establishments not working as a part of a DUP protest towards post-Brexit buying and selling preparations.

The ballot was pushed again by two weeks as a result of coronation of the King on May 6.

It has been a low-key election marketing campaign, largely overshadowed by the go to to Northern Ireland of US President Joe Biden, commemorations of the twenty fifth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and the coronation.
