Prepare drivers threaten strike chaos in New Year – verify actual dates affected

The RMT Union is looking for drivers to go on strike within the New Year.

In a press release, the union mentioned: “On Friday last week, before the ballot had even closed, LUL advised us that it was ignoring any of your wishes and that the pay offer would be imposed in January.

“This has understandably been met with a livid response from you and your colleagues and your reps have reported overwhelming assist for a major and fast response.

“I urge you to support the strike action to demand an improved offer that addresses the inflation of pay bands and protects the lower paid grades.”

Alongside drivers, monitor entry controllers, and London Underground members are planning to go on strike.

In a press release issued by the RMT, it continued: “Engineering Vehicles Operations and Maintenance (formerly Transplant) members are instructed not to book on for any shifts commencing between 18:00 hours on Friday January 5 and 17:59 hours on Saturday January 6 2024

“Also, to not work any time beyond regulation or relaxation day working between 18:00 hours on Saturday January 6 and 23:59 hours on Friday January 12 2024.”

“Track Access Control, Power Control and London Underground Control Centre members are instructed to not guide on for any shifts commencing between 00:01 hours Sunday January 7 and 23:59 hours on Monday January 8 2024.”

They added: “Service Controller and Service Operator members are instructed to not guide on for any shifts commencing between 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Tuesday January 9 2024 [and] 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Thursday January 11 2024

“All other London Underground members are instructed not to book on for any shifts commencing between 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Monday January 8 2025 and 00:01 hours and 23:59 hours on Wednesday January 10 2024.”

In a press release on the RMT London Calling web site, Mick Lynch wrote: “On Friday last week, before the ballot had even closed, LUL advised us that it was ignoring any of your wishes and that the pay offer would be imposed in January.

As a results of the strikes, 1000’s of commuters might be affected as they return to work after the Christmas break.

In a press release earlier this week, it was introduced that London Underground staff had voted to go on strike in a dispute over their pay.

In a press release, Transport for London (TfL) mentioned: “We are disappointed that RMT has achieved a mandate for strike action based on our full and final pay offer. We have been clear throughout our productive discussions with our trade unions that this offer is the most we can afford whilst ensuring that we can operate safely, reliably and sustainably.

“We stay open for discussions and can do all the things in our energy to keep away from disruption to Londoners.”

It was hoped a strike may have been prevented after the Aslef commerce union accepted a pay provide for Tube drivers on Friday.
