Erik ten Hag slams Man Utd stars for ‘making a gift of’ Burnley draw
Erik ten Hag slammed his Manchester United gamers after they have been held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Burnley at Old Trafford. The Red Devils boss felt his aspect lacked management and ‘gave away’ two factors in an ‘unnecessary’ method.
Antony’s first objective of the Premier League season was cancelled out by a late Zeki Amdouni penalty. The consequence leaves United sixth within the top-flight, six factors behind fifth-placed Tottenham in a disappointing marketing campaign.
Ten Hag felt that his gamers ‘gave away’ the consequence after battling to take the lead early within the second half.
“Strong start to the game. Loads of chances then we lost in control in second part of first half. Burnley came back in the game and had some chances,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports.
“Second half was all ours and we’re in a profitable place and we give the sport away on the finish. Very pissed off, should not occur. You put your self in troublesome positions. Over many phases of the sport we did excellent so on the finish we now have to take the three factors and the clear sheet. We gave it away once more on the finish.
“We put ourselves in a winning position by playing some good football – creating loads of chances and then to give it away in the end in the final minutes it’s so unnecessary.”
While Ten Hag was sad with the efficiency of his gamers, he was livid with two separate penalty selections that went towards the hosts. Andre Onana was penalised for a foul within the penalty space, with Amdouni scoring, earlier than Alejandro Garnancho made an enchantment for a spot-kick in added time.
He continued: “Bad luck and we aren’t fortunate with the refereeing in current weeks. We’ve conceded so many penalties, this one is justified however different ones. If you make [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka within the [FA Cup semi-] ultimate a penalty then what is that this? Where is the consistency?
“We have to look in the mirror. We made a mistake, but you take responsibility and they should understand what it means for a team and for a manager.”
A draw with Burnley will do little for Ten Hag in his bid to persuade INEOS that he ought to remain United manager beyond the summer. Champions League qualification – whereas not mathematically unimaginable – appears out of the equation. The 54-year-old’s future might hinge on United’s FA Cup ultimate towards Manchester City.
