China: UK has ‘no technique’ to sort out risk posed by Beijing, Intelligence and Security Committee of MPs says

The authorities has “no strategy” to sort out the risk from China and has left the UK “severely handicapped” as a consequence of its “short-termist approach”, a brand new report has claimed.

The Intelligence and Security Committee has printed its work on the risk the nation poses, saying China has managed to “successfully penetrate every sector of the UK’s economy”.

But it pointed a variety of fingers at Whitehall, saying assets invested into tackling the risk have been “completely inadequate” and the “slow speed leaves a lot to be desired”.

The committee, made up by MPs from throughout events, stated interference from the Chinese authorities within the UK was “not hard to detect”, however departments “may not previously have been looking for it” – and businesses have been targeted on overt operations slightly than interference exercise.

“The UK is now playing catch up and the whole of government has its work cut out to understand and counter the threat from China,” it stated.

“The government told the committee that its response to the threat is ‘robust’ and ‘clear eyed’.

“China specialists have been slightly much less complimentary, concluding that the federal government has no technique on China, not to mention an efficient one, and that it was singularly failing to deploy a ‘whole-of-government’ strategy – a damning appraisal certainly.”
