Eamonn Holmes has revealed his bemused three-word response when Phillip Schofield dramatically confessed to him that he was homosexual.

Speaking to Dan Wootton on GB News concerning the controversy that has engulfed the ITV flagship present This Morning, Holmes described how Schofield had fallen to his knees in a dressing room drama and sobbed that he was homosexual.

Schofield, 61, resigned from ITV final Friday and was dropped by his expertise company after admitting to an “unwise, but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague.

In the wake of his resignation, some former This Morning workers have come out to criticise each Schofield and the tradition on the present.

Holmes, who left the present in December 2021, had beforehand claimed that “everything at ITV was geared towards making Schofield and co-presenter Holly Willoughby happy”.

In his GB News interview, Holmes defined how Schofield, whose relationship together with his younger lover came about whereas he was nonetheless married to his spouse, Stephanie Lowe, the mom of their two daughters, cried as he admitted to him and Ruth Langsford that he was homosexual.

Holmes stated he was driving to the studio to current This Morning when he acquired a phone name informing him that Schofield was additionally coming in – although it was not defined why.

He was advised that Willoughby was additionally coming in, and that that they had “something to say”.

“I was thinking, ‘Oh good, hopefully he is going’,” stated Holmes.

“But it wasn’t to be. So, anyway, he comes into our dressing room and falls down on his knees crying…the acting is amazing.

“I stated to him, ‘What’s the matter?’”

He revealed that Schofield replied, ‘I’m homosexual, I’m homosexual!’

“I walked over and I said, ‘Is that all?’  I thought he’d killed a child or something.

“I stood him up, I pulled him up, I stated, ‘What are you speaking about…so that you’re homosexual’.

“That tied into a lot of things that you may have heard.

“I feel anyone to be tied right into a life that is not true to them can be completely unsuitable and we have been very supportive, Ruth hugged him and we stated, ‘Look, we’ll stand by you’.

“It wouldn’t have entered our minds that the man would be discriminated against because he was gay.”

In an announcement launched final week, Schofield admitted: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.

“Contrary to hypothesis, while I met the person when he was an adolescent and was requested to assist him to get into tv, it was solely after he began to work on the present that it turned greater than only a friendship.

“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.”

The presenter added: “I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public, and most importantly of all to my family.

“I’m so very, very sorry, as I’m for having been untrue to my spouse.”
