A teenage boy who died while swimming off Bournemouth Beach has been named as 17-year-old Joe Abbess. Joe was pulled from the water after big waves, believed to have been brought on by a passing boat, brought on issues for a number of swimmers. 

Joe’s household stated they have been “heartbroken and devastated” on the lack of a “fabulous young man” and a “talented” trainee chef.

A pal stated Joe was a “great lad, he was very popular”.

They added: “He’d gone to Bournemouth with eight mates last week because it was half-term. They’d gone down to the beach and Joe and a few others were in the sea.

“All of a sudden there was a commotion and folks have been struggling within the water. Joe was introduced out of the ocean onto the seaside and paramedics have been making an attempt to revive him however they could not do something.

“We haven’t got the full details yet on what happened but his death has left a lot of people heartbroken. His family, as you’d expect are not in a good way, and it’s hit a lot of people very hard.”

When the tragedy occurred final Wednesday, lifeguards rushed into the water by Bournemouth Pier when a bunch of younger individuals received into problem at 4.30pm.

As members of the well being service tried to avoid wasting probably the most critically injured, an extra eight individuals have been handled for non-life-threatening accidents.

An investigation has been launched into how the tragedy occurred whereas a person in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, however launched whereas beneath investigation.

In a press release launched by Dorset Police, Joe’s household stated: “We are heartbroken and devastated at the death of our Joe. He was a wonderful son and brother who is sadly missed.

“His household and buddies will at all times love him and we’re extremely pleased with the fabulous younger man he was. He was variety and beneficiant, loving and caring, hardworking and humorous.

“Joe was a talented trainee chef, with a bright future ahead of him. We were privileged to have him in our lives for 17 years and we are so sorry he will never fulfil his dreams and ambitions.

“He was having fun with a day on the seaside on Wednesday and we wish to thank his buddies and all the emergency providers who helped him when this tragedy unfolded.”

Alongside Joe Abbess, 12-year-old Sunnah Khan, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, also died in the tragedy. More than 200 people attended his funeral at the Central Mosque in High Wycombe on Saturday, June 3.

A friend said Sunnah “might be missed by everybody, she was highly regarded and her loss of life will depart a gap that might be unattainable to fill. She had a lot extra to stay up for. She was an angel”.

Trustee on the Wycombe Islamic Mission and Mosque stated, Mohammed Rafiq, 65, instructed the MailOnline: “What occurred is tragic for the household. They are very hard-working and well-respected right here, this can be a close-knit neighborhood. There have been a whole bunch of people that got here to the funeral, the queue was overflowing.”

Two eyewitnesses to the incident described how paramedics attending the scene assessed which individuals needed urgent treatment. 

Dorset Police said it was continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
