Fast-thinking passer-by thanked by Essex Police for saving man’s life on bridge

A “quick-thinking” passer-by has been thanked by cops for saving a person’s life on a bridge within the early hours of the morning.

Essex Police stated a person in misery referred to as them shortly after 1am on Sunday.

While the person was on the cellphone, a member of the general public noticed him standing on the opposite facet of a railings on a bridge over Queensway in Southend.

The passer-by managed to pay money for the person seconds earlier than officers arrived.

Chief inspector Jo Collins, Southend’s district commander, stated the member of the general public’s actions “undoubtedly saved this man’s life” and had been “an example to us all”.

She stated: “I firstly want to offer my personal gratitude, and the gratitude of the whole force, to the member of the public who undoubtedly saved this man’s life.

“His actions throughout this fast-moving and troublesome incident actually are an instance to us all.

“Our officers were on the scene within moments, reacting with exemplary care and professionalism over the course of the next hour as they held the man before ensuring he was lifted from the bridge safely.

“I’d provide my because of them for his or her efforts in saving him, and for his or her position in conducting and coordinating the rescue.”

Police say the person was lifted to security utilizing specialist tools by 2am in a joint operation with East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service.
